Objectives:
By the end of this presentation, the participant should
be able to:
- Apply and demonstrate the ways in which physiological
aging affects the immune system and other organ systems.
- Apply knowledge of aging physiology to the possible
impact of a biological disaster on older adults.
- Describe the additional issues posed by chronic frailty
and disease upon the impact of a biological disaster
on older adults.

the Author:
John F. McGreevey Jr., MD, associate professor
of internal medicine at the Northeastern Ohio Universities
College of Medicine, is program director of internal medicine,
Canton Medical Education Foundation of Canton, Ohio. Dr.
McGreevey has more than 20 years of experience as a clinical
and academic geriatrician. He has written and presented
on topics such as dementia care, geriatric education and
health and aging issues. He is involved actively in graduate
and undergraduate medical education, speaks
extensively at interdisciplinary programs and faculty
and development activities. An acknowledged leader in
geriatrics for the State of Ohio, Dr. McGreevey has served
the Ohio Geriatrics Society as a board member, past president
and former Council of State Affiliates representative
to the American Geriatrics Society. He was chair of the
Consortium of Ohio Geriatric Academic Programs from 1996-2003.
