Q: Is there anyway to stop pop-up windows?

A: You must allow pop-up windows for NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. and Messenger Express to work properly but you can disallow pop-ups from other sites.

Nestcape 7.1 [pdf file with screen shots]
In the Netscape browser do the following:
1. Click on Edit and then Preferences.
2. Click on the 'Privacy and Security' arrow select 'pop-up windows.'
3. In the pop-up windows menu check mark the option 'block unrequested pop-up windows'
4. Click on the 'Allowed Sites' button and type in "mail2.neoucom.edu" into the text box then click the 'Add' button.
5. Type in "docs.neoucom.edu" into the text box and click the 'Add' button.
6. Click OK to exit the menus.
Done

Internet Explorer with Windows XP Service Pack 2 [pdf file with screen shots]
In the Internet Explorer browser do the following:
1. Click on Tools and then Internet Options.
2. Click on the 'Privacy' tab.
3. At the bottom of the Privacy screen you will see Pop-up Blocker.
4. Click on the 'Settings...' button.
5. Type "mail2.neoucom.edu" into the 'Address of Web site to allow:' box and click the 'Add' button.
6. Type in "docs.neoucom.edu" into the 'Address of Web site to allow:' box and click the 'Add' button.
6. Click the 'Close' button to return to the Privacy window.
7. Click the 'OK' button to return back to Internet Explorer.
Done

If you don't see the above in your version of Internet Explorer, you don't have Windows XP with Service Pack 2. If you continue to have problems with blocked pop-up windows in Internet Explorer, you most likely have a third-party 'toolbar' installed such as the Yahoo toolbar, My Search Assistant, AdZapper, etc. Please refer to the toolbar's documentation to allow pop-ups from the address "mail2.neoucom.edu" and "docs.neoucom.edu"

Q: Why do I have to scroll horizontally when I log into NEOUCOM D.O.C.S.?

A: The layout for NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. has been customized for viewing on monitors with their screen resolution set to a width of 1024 pixels. Most likely your screen resolution is set to a width of 800 pixels if you have to scroll horizontally. You can change this on a pc

1. Click the Start button (lower left corner of your screen).

2. From Settings (or the right hand menu) choose Control Panel.

3. Click to open Display.

4. Click on the Settings tab.

5. Drag the Display or screen area slider to the right until it reads 1024 by 760 or larger. If this resolution is not available on the computer you are using, choose 800 by 600. Some scrolling will be required at this lower resolution.

6. Click the OK button.

7. After the screen resizes, click the OK button to confirm the new screen size.

Q: Is NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. secure?

A: Yes, NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. uses HTTPS communication during the login process and in all your interaction with the Banner Web.

The NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. portal is designed to protect the transmission of sensitive data but also to allow the efficient transport of other data. The SSL encryption of data is computationally intensive, so we do not want to encrypt the entire site.

Q: My browser asks if I want to save my username and password when I logon to NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. Is this OK?

A: NO! Never save your CAMPUS username/password in the browser or any other automated logon software. This potentially permits anyone to logon to that PC with your credentials, allowing them to assume your identity and access to university services and content, including email. This is a clear violation of university policy. You are always responsible for all activity conducted under your username.

Q: The Portal doesn’t appear to be using SSL (secure socket layer). Is this a security hole?

A: SSL is in effect, but runs in the background. It is invoked when needed, such as during login to the Portal or when sensitive information is being passed.

Q: Why does my NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. web session time out?

A: After you log on to NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. you begin a web session. If the session remains inactive for more than 1 hour (i.e. you do not interact with the site) your session will time out and you will be taken back to the sign-in screen. You will need to sign back onto the site.

[top]

Q: Why do I get a "Session Expired" error while accessing NEOUCOM D.O.C.S.?

A: You may have a pop-up blocker installed on your computer. Pop-up blockers (and some search bars such as Yahoo! Companion) may interfere with NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. and other Web pages. Please be sure that your pop-up blocker is disabled before using NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. To check the status of your pop-up blocker, visit PopupCheck.com to run a free test.

AOL users: After connecting to AOL, minimize the browser and open up Internet Explorer's browser. Go to http://docs.neoucom.edu and log-in from there.

[top]

Q: Why when I minimize a channel it doesn’t stay minimized when I log back in?

A: The minimization only holds for the current session. Once you log out and log back in the channels will be maximized.

[top]

Q: What if I forget my NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. password?

A: Either call 330-325-6911 or e-mail help@neoucom.edu for password resets.

[top]

Q: Why am I getting "This page cannot be displayed?"

A: NEOUCOM D.O.C.S. uses 128-bit encryption instead of the 56-bit encryption that older web browsers use. This increases the security of your information. You will need to upgrade your browser. See the section on known browser issues.

[top]

Q: How do I upgrade to 128-bit encryption in my Internet Explorer browser?

A: Install Internet Explorer High Encryption Pack (Windows 95/98/NT)

Install Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack (Windows 2000 or ME)

Install Internet Explorer 6 with 128-bit encryption (Windows 98/NT/2000/ME/XP)

[top]

Q: Why am I getting the error message "username/password pair not found"?

A: Verify that your username and password are correct. If you still are getting this error message, your Internet Explorer version maybe 5 or lower. You will need to upgrade your browser. See the section on browser issues.
