Community service is an important aspect of the mission of the NEOUCOM Department of Family Medicine. The department is actively involved in several initiatives that provide service to Northeast Ohio communities. The Medically Underserved Our commitment to improving health care for the medically underserved is accomplished at three levels - education, service and research. The NEOUCOM Department of Family Medicine partners with clinics located in Northeast Ohio that have a focus on providing care for the medically underserved. Not only do members of our department provide care at many of these sites, but these clinics also support clinical education and research. All NEOUCOM students spend time at various sites that provide care to the medically underserved throughout Northeastern Ohio. Many of these sites are engaged in a research project to use computer technology to improve preventive health services for uninsured and underserved patients. MEDCAMP MEDCAMP is a three-day extensive experience designed to provide 14-year-old students with early exposure to the life sciences, particularly medicine, as a potential career choice. Sponsored by the NEOUCOM AHEC program, Medcamp targets women, minorities, rural students and other underrepresented groups in medicine. Family medicine faculty and staff take an active role in the planning and delivery of the program each year. Click on the following link for more information about the MEDCAMP program.
