The mission of the Office of Geriatric Medicine/Gerontology is to foster, through teaching, research, service and consultation, the cost-effective delivery of high quality services that will improve the health of older citizens in northeastern Ohio. The Office is committed to providing all medical students with a foundation in geriatrics.

The office is one of seven offices of geriatric medicine established in 1978 by a legislative act the Ohio General Assembly (Ohio Revised Code Section 3333.111). The offices have been working collaboratively for over two decades building a strong statewide network through the Consortium of Ohio Geriatric Academic Programs (COGAP).

Coordination and implementation of clinical programs are achieved under the direction of the Geriatric Medicine Regional Coordinating Committee composed of key leaders in geriatric medicine throughout the consortium.
