Elder Abuse:

A Model Intervention for Elder Abuse & Dementia

The training manual is a comprehensive curriuculum for cross-training service providers in elder abuse and dementia. It is designed to build a community response system that will improve case identification, care planning and intervention for persons with dementia who are suspected of being abused or at high risk for abuse and negelect.

The content of the manual is tailored to the Adult Protective Services System and Alzheimer's Association in Ohio. However, the curriculum can be easily adapted to other communities, different states and a variety of service provider networks. Modifications of the curriuculum have been used for training police and other "first responders" who come in contact with older persons.

Insights of Children Elder Abuse Prevention

This book, written for youth, highlights the importance of preventing the mistreatment of older adults.  It illustrates examples of abuse, neglect or exploitation of older adults through five stories where the victims are older family members. The stories highlight the important role that young people can play in identifying and reporting situations where elders are at risk for harm. The stories also portray an appropriate community response, triggered by the action of the young person, to resolve the abuse. Infused throughout the stories are the values of intergenerational relationships, open communication, positive perspectives on aging and compassion.  Definitions, facts and suggestions about what to do when faced with elder abuse are provided at the end of each story.
