As part of the institutions program of continuous quality improvement, an institutional method was needed to track, document, and articulate faculty achievements for purposes of continued faculty and institutional growth. On September 2005, Lois Margaret Nora, M.D., J.D., President and Dean, College of Medicine, underscored this need by announcing the launching of an initiative to "create a process and an instrument that will define, within a generally understood format, the work that faculty do and the quality of that work that will result in data that will be available to constituencies who should have access to it." This charge was accomplished through a Strategic Indicators Document Task Force, chaired by the senior vice president for academic affairs. The Task Force achieved consensus on performance measures, productivity standards and appropriate tracking tools that will ultimately result in an increase in accountability and fiscal discipline through peer-review processes to provide high-quality education, research, and service as efficiently and cost effectively as possible. The Task Force further accomplished this charge through the development of a one-page document entitled Strategic Indicators Document and a web-based e-Portfolio tool, which will allow faculty to enter data and run applicable reports. The establishment of an institution-wide strategic indicators document and e-Portfolio will assist in the success of all College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy faculty and continue the institutions movement to greatness through "faculty excellence."
