Mark A. Penn, M.D., M.B.A., is the senior vice president for academic affairs at the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy, executive associate dean for the college of medicine and professor of family medicine. He received his bachelors degree in microbiology from The Ohio State University, a medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio and a masters of business administration from
Regent
University. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice. Dr. Penn completed his residency in family medicine at
Saint Thomas
Hospital
in
Akron,
Ohio. Dr. Penn was in private practice for eight years. In 1988, he joined the Akron City Hospital family medicine residency program as an associate director and became a faculty member of NEOUCOM. From 1997-2001, Dr. Penn was the medical director of the Center for Studies of Clinical Performance at NEOUCOM. In 2001, he became interim vice president for academic affairs and executive associate dean. From July to October 2002, he served as acting president and dean of NEOUCOM. In January 2003, Dr. Penn became the senior vice president for academic affairs and executive associate dean, College of Medicine.
In 1996, Dr. Penn received a fellowship to the Harvard Macy Institute Physician Scholars Program for Physician Educators at
Harvard
Medical
School. He was the recipient of the 2001 Leibelt-Wheeler Award for Faculty Excellence at NEOUCOM and was named the 2003 Family Physician of the Year at Summa Health System. In 2007, he was named an American Council on Education (ACE) Bishop Fellow for the 2007-08 academic year.
