NEOUCOM’s Wasson Center has undergone a major upgrade with the installation of the B-Line Medical's Clinical Skills System™, the hardware/software application now being used to conduct assessments. The following provides some information about this new system.

What is the B-Line Clinical Skills System:

B-Line Medical's Clinical Skills System™ is a best-of-class digital solution for managing and operating a clinical skills center. Recently chosen by NEOUCOM as well as other medical programs such as Ohio State University, Georgetown University and Riverside Methodist Hospital, their solution revolutionizes the way institutions create, administer, record and score clinical skills encounters with standardized patients and simulators.

What are the advantages to B-Line?

The B-Line system offers a paperless exam flow which means a more secure and reliable assessment environment. The sytem can check to ensure there are no incomplete checklists. Examinees will be able to access their case instructions, lab results, physical exam findings, etc., as well as complete their post-encounter notes online. Assessment reports can be generated as soon as the raters have submitted their checklists.

The new testing environment also opens the door for new assessment methods. For example, the electronic checklists' time-stamp capability make it possible to examine sequentiality, that is, the degree to which the examinee performed a series of tasks in order.

B-Line is working with NEOUCOM to create electronic medical record and e-labs.

What are minimum requirements to view videos?

You will need a computer with high-speed Internet access as well as the Quicktime player installed (free on the web).

We will provide a web address that students and faculty can use to view videos with a password which will be provided.

Where on campus will I be able to view videos?

With a wireless-equipped laptop and NEOUCOM’s wireless environment, you will be able to view recordings from any location at NEOUCOM.

For group activities, videos can also be viewed in any of NEOUCOM’s “smart rooms” which contain a computer, projector, speakers, and screen.

Privacy & Security Issues:

Neither students nor faculty will be able to download or record the streaming video from the Internet.

If you wish to burn DVDs, we will provide recorded encounters to your department in a secure shared folder on NEOUCOM’s Intranet.

How long will videos be stored on the server?

Recordings will be stored in accordance to NEOUCOM’s record retention schedule.

Although the format of recording has changed, the major difference in accessibility is that students and faculty will now be able to access recordings in more public places by means of laptop computers.
