DIRECT ENTRY M.D.

About the Program

If you thought that NEOUCOM offers only an accelerated B.S./M.D. program, here is a new perspective: normally 20 percent of our first-year medical school students are admitted via the traditional four-year premedicine route. NEOUCOM offers a "small school" atmosphere, personalized attention, and what our students describe as a friendly and caring environment. We also have three consortium universities, 17 associated teaching hospitals, 6,500 teaching beds and nearly 1,800 clinical faculty members.

Application requirements include demonstrated proficiency in appropriate college course work and competitive scores that are no more than two years old from the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Other admission criteria include faculty recommendations, student commitment and exposure to the field of medicine, and extracurricular and work activities. The medical school interview, by invitation only, is a vital part of the screening process.

NEOUCOM and Cleveland State University have formed a partnership in which preferential admissions into the NEOUCOM M.D. program is available to competitive CSU applicants.  To learn more, visit http://www.neoucom.edu/audience/applicants/succeed/admi/csumdpartner

How to Apply for Admissions (2011 Entering Class)

Students apply to NEOUCOM using the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) application as early as June 1st of the year preceding anticipated enrollment in medical school.

Step 1: Go to http://www.aamc.org/ and fill out your AMCAS application, choosing NEOUCOM as one of the schools to receive it.

Step 2: Using the new AMCAS Letters service, have at least one suitable* letter of recommendation sent in to AMCAS as well.

Step 3: Wait for an e-mail from NEOUCOM regarding your application.  If you meet our minimum academic requirements, you will recieve a request to fill out our supplemental application**.

Step 4: If invited to, log in to the supplemental application using your AAMC ID and SSN.  After filling out the application, either submit your payment online or send in your payment to our office.

Step 5: Wait for e-mail notification that your file is complete and await word on a possible interview between October and April!

*A letter of recommendation should be submitted on behalf of your premedical/preprofessional committee or advisor.  If a letter is not available from such, a recommendation may be provided by a person who is knowledgeable about your ability to complete science-oriented curriculum.  A recommendation from a faculty member is preferable and a recommendation from a family member is not acceptable.

**We must receive your verified AMCAS application and appropriate letter of recommendation before you can receive a supplemental application.

Deadlines to Apply

Early Decision
August 1 – AMCAS Application Deadline
September 1 – NEOUCOM Supplemental Materials Deadline

Regular Decision
November 1 – AMCAS Application Deadline
December 1 – NEOUCOM Supplemental Materials Deadline

Applicants must take the MCAT no later than the fall prior to the year of anticipated enrollment.

Upon receipt of the AMCAS application and supplemental materials, the NEOUCOM Admissions Committee determines whether to keep the applicant’s file active for interview consideration.

Early Decision Program

Competitive applicants to the M.D. program who consider NEOUCOM their first choice school are encouraged to apply through NEOUCOM’S Early Decision Program (EDP). All EDP applicants must have MCAT scores and apply through AMCAS by August 1 of the year prior to anticipated enrollment. Notification regarding admission is given by October 1.

EDP Facts and Benefits

  • Earlier admission consideration.
  • A means of noting NEOUCOM as your preferred medical school.
  • Status notification date of October 1. This is an advantage because of the limited number of seats in the M.D. program. The actual number of available freshmen openings is not determined until June of each year.

Acceptance

Accepted students must make a $100 acceptance deposit in order to hold their seat.  That deposit is refundable until May 15.  If the student enrolls at NEOUCOM, the money will be applied towards their first-year tuition.
