High School Student Programs

High school students who are interested in the health care industry can become involved in one or more of our educational and fun programs – HealthSuccess, Pathways to Pharmacy, Student Leadership Program or MEDCAMP.

HealthSuccess

HealthSuccess is a highly selective enrichment program for ninth through eleventh grade students who are from groups underrepresented in medicine and pharmacy. The program was developed for those students who are specifically interested in medicine or pharmacy and begin to allow them to learn about these fields early in their education. Students gain college readiness skills, medical and pharmacy school preparation through their participation in various activities and workshops. HealthSuccess programs are typically held monthly from September to May.

Pathways to Pharmacy

To meet the rising demands of the health care industry and better prepare students to be competitive in the health care arena, CVS/pharmacy® has partnered with the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy (NEOUCOM) to design and implement a pharmacy workforce development program. Through mentorship, enrichment programs and industry exposure, we hope to expand student interest in the pharmacy profession and increase the number of students who graduate from high school and pursue pharmacy as a career.

The five-week summer program, designed to expose persons from groups underrepresented in pharmacy to career of a pharmacist, allows students to learn from industry professionals both in the classroom as well as at paid CVS® pharmacy internships.

Student Leadership Program

The Student Leadership Program (SLP)  is an intense three day summer residential experience for high school seniors to experience first hand some of the activities involved in attending medical or pharmacy school. Not only will students get to talk to current and former students, but they will be able to experience labs and simulation equipment. They will also be able to take an ACT test, receive their scores immediately and then be coached in a strategy session for ways to improve their results. The program is completely free (includes all housing and meals at Kent State University).

MEDCAMP

MEDCAMP is a three-day, intensive experience designed to stimulate students' interests in the basic sciences and medicine and to expose them to career opportunities in those fields. The program is designed to provide "hands on" experiences in biomedical science workshops involving research, clinical problem-solving and an introduction to the field of clinical medicine.
