The url for the AIMS installation at NEOUCOM is http://aims.neoucom.edu. What you can do with AIMS:
Contact the AIMS Administrator (330-325-6229 or e-mail scombs@neoucom.edu) to request a user account and/or a course account. If you need help converting your existing materials, contact Academic Technology Services (330-325-6229). Staff have appropriate skills and software to assist you. You can use AIMS with material in any format that can be served from a regular web site. Usually HTML is the simplest format to use since it was designed for the web, and most programs now have the capability to export files as HTML. You can also use an HTML editor such as FrontPage, Dreamweaver, or Netscape Composer to create pages for AIMS. If you prefer to use files in their native format, remember that your students either need to have the same program you used to create the files or a suitable viewer. Any quizzes you have prepared with a word processor formatted in the proper manner can be imported into AIMS. Many textbook publishers make available supplementary materials that you can load into AIMS and be modified to suit your own needs. If you consider adopting this type of material be sure to ask for a chance to review it before making a commitmentthe quality varies! In most cases there is a fee for use of publisher materials; the trends seems to be for students to pay for an access code in much the same way they pay for a textbook. Please send an email to the AIMS administrator prior to making a commitment of this sort. You may need a system administrator to install the material. The NEOUCOM library offers many services that are helpful to distance learners and convenient for anyone teaching or learning in an online environment. If you need assistance with content, NEOUCOM librarians are available to help you identify a wide variety of sources for course materials (books, journals, web sites, audiovisuals, etc.). |
