Institutional Safety Committee: The Institutional Safety Committee is a committee of the President that assures the occupational/environmental health and safety of the College community in accordance with applicable federal, state and local requirements. The committee provides a forum for discussion and recommendation of institutional policy and procedures related to: (1) campus security and emergency response, (2) occupational/environmental health and safety, and (3) the use and disposal of nonradioactive chemical and biological materials. The Biosafety Subcommittee reviews all proposed research projects for assurance that recombinant DNA activities comply with applicable requirements on the Rootstown campus. Radiation Safety Committee: The Radiation Safety Committee is a committee of the President administered by the Division of Basic Medical Sciences. The committee is responsible for ensuring compliance with all U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Ohio Department of Health radiation safety regulations and for reviewing and approving all procedures involving ionizing radiation, including the purchase of all radioactive materials or radiation-generating equipment. The committee is responsible for authorizing, and if necessary, deauthorizing, all personnel involved in the use of ionizing radiation. The committee serves a advisory to the Associate Dean for Basic Medical Sciences. |
