Academic Plan, NEOUCOM, March 31, 2004
The Office of Faculty Affairs is committed to supporting the overall mission and goals of NEOUCOM by providing leadership, guidance and support to all faculty and their departments. The Office is committed to creating a mutually supportive team that is known for its (1) respectful, caring and ethical treatment of all individuals who seek our services; and (2) competence through innovative and efficient work processes.
Faculty Affairs handles appointments, promotions and reappointments for our non-tenured clinical faculty. Another key area for the office is faculty governance. The office provides direct supervision and oversight of the faculty bylaws process. There is also support for Faculty Council, a faculty forum that discusses issues that impact the faculty, facilitates broad faculty participation in governance of the Institution and is a means where faculty may give advice and formally express opinions. Regular elections occur, and clinical and Rootstown-based faculty are encouraged to become active participants in Faculty Council. The office also supports the faculty awards process. Internal awards are typically presented at NEOUCOM activities, such as White Coat Ceremony and the Spring Faculty Meeting. External awards that are broad based with potential institutional impact are facilitated. A list of NEOUCOM committees and membership openings are circulated to the faculty on an annual basis and as vacancies occur throughout the year. Those interested in service on NEOUCOM committees are encouraged to contact the Office of Faculty Affairs as openings are circulated. The office sponsors an annual new faculty orientation that allows both the Rootstown-based and clinical faculty the opportunity to learn more about the functions of NEOUCOM. Several faculty and staff present information at this event and answer questions about their various roles within the institution. The office is also supportive of other functions, including recruitment of faculty members, evaluation and performance planning, departmental annual reports, faculty improvement leaves, and the Master Teachers Guild membership selection process. Faculty Affairs is also the repository of the official faculty record. In cooperation with the Office of Faculty Development, Faculty Affairs supports career development for key faculty members and leadership conferences for those with key roles within the NEOUCOM consortium. Please take an opportunity to contact us and have your questions answered about becoming a faculty member at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. At this exciting time in health care, we welcome your participation and interest.
