COLLEGE OF MEDICINE CLINICAL FACULTY

APPOINTMENT, PROMOTION, AND REAPPOINTMENT

How do I apply for a clinical faculty appointment?

You may apply for a clinical faculty appointment at any time by submitting a completed application form and a letter of support from your hospital department chair or other appropriate supervising physician to the NEOUCOM clinical department chair.   Final approval by the Board of Trustees occurs quarterly.

Can I submit my faculty appointment application electronically?

As part of the faculty e-portfolio project (described below), a fully electronic submission to the NEOUCOM clinical department chair will become available in the near future.

How long does it take to receive a clinical faculty appointment?

The complete application process subsequent to submission takes approximately four months which may be extended if additional information is requested or required information is omitted.

As a new, board certified physician to the area, I cannot satisfy the units for the last 3 years to meet the requirements for faculty rank.  What should I do?

You can still apply for faculty rank.  Initial appointment is primarily based upon past performance with an expectation of continued contribution at a level commensurate with the recommended appointment.  Your hospital department chair should discuss your current and expected contributions in the letter of support.

As a clinical faculty member, when can I apply for promotion?

Promotion applications are considered annually.  By August 1, submit a completed application and required letter(s) of recommendation to the NEOUCOM department chair after you have achieved the required years in your current rank.

FACULTY REVIEW

How often are clinical faculty reviewed?

Clinical faculty are reviewed at least once in a three-year period using a departmentally staggered review cycle.

What is required for continued faculty appointment?

The department chair reviews your activity report of NEOUCOM related activities using the initial appointment and promotion criteria as a guideline.  Clinical faculty may be reassigned to a different track if the reported activities are more appropriate to another track.

Can I submit my activity report electronically?

As part of the electronic e-portfolio project (described below), a reappointment report will be developed and piloted during the 2007-08 review cycle.

E-PORTFOLIO

As a faculty member, I have heard about a faculty e-portfolio.  What is this and how can I access it?

We are developing an electronic faculty e-portfolio to provide an easy-to-use, web-based tool for importing, entering, editing, searching and reporting your academic work.  This will be an important benefit to promote faculty skills, contributions and expertise/interests.  The e-portfolio will be live July 2007 and will be implemented on a phased-in basis.  You may contact Carol Elliott cfe@neoucom.edu  330-325-6258 in the Office of Faculty Affairs for further information.

STAY INFORMED !

Why haven’t I received any regular communication from NEOUCOM lately?
