Annual Selection Timetable: Nominations for open positions are solicited in January of each year by the Office of Faculty Affairs.
MEMBERSHIP OPENINGS JULY 1, 2008
Self nominees and other nominees are encouraged and accepted. Those involved in the Annual Process Overview include faculty, staff, department chairpersons, associate deans, committee chairpersons, appropriate administrative personnel, Nominating and Membership Committee, Academic Council, and the President and Dean.
Terms: Terms of appointment are normally three years commencing July 1 unless otherwise specified. Members may be reappointed to committees upon the completion of their term. A member may be replaced prior to the completion of a term when the member has failed to attend at least 50 percent of the regularly scheduled meetings during the academic year.
Ex Officio Members: Members of a committee by virtue of their position. Unless otherwise specified, ex officio members have the rights and privileges of other committee members including vote.
New Committee Members: Committee Chairs should discuss the expectations of committee membership with all new members by September 1 including role of membership, committee charge and function, frequency and length of meetings, and methods of communication between and among members.
Voting: One vote is allotted to each member unless otherwise defined. A substitute for a voting member may not vote. Usually voting will take place at the meeting, whether the meeting is held in person or by electronic means. Voice votes are most common; however, written ballots may be used when requested. Votes may also be taken by mail or email when a full vote of the membership is desired.
Meetings: Meetings are held at a time and manner that will promote participation. These meetings may be held either in person or via video conference and teleconference or by any other modality that will allow all the members to hear each other and participate at the same time. Any member may request that he/she be allowed to participate via electronic means. The Committee Chair will take reasonable measures to accommodate such requests. Committees operate under the guidelines of Roberts Rule of Order unless otherwise specified.
Quorum: The members present at a committee meeting, whether in person or via electronic means, constitute a quorum unless otherwise specified.
* The Office of Faculty Affairs administers the process of filling expired terms and assuring appropriate composition of these Committees.
