The Skeletal Biology Research Focus Area brings together researchers that study all aspects of bone, cartilage, and connective tissue biology in humans and other mammals. Approaches range across all organizational levels, from molecules to organisms. Some research projects are applied, involving clinical research, others are basic, and involve laboratory studies on molecular-level processes, but also field studies on processes at larger time-scales, such as mammalian evolution.
Skeletal Biology at NEOUCOM is highly integrated, but can be divided, somewhat arbitrarily, into five main areas of research:
- Cellular and Molecular Biology
- Development / Aging
- Orthopaedic Research
- Regenerative Medicine / Tissue Engineering
- Functional Morphology / Evolution
