How do I gain access to the animal care facility at NEOUCOM/P?

  1. Facility users must complete the IACUC required  "Introduction to Laboratory Animal Care " training course which is available in a web-based format.  A passing score of 70% is required on the associated quiz.   See the  Animal Care Course page on the CMU website for an overview of the course and how to access it.
  2. A facility orientation and guided tour of the CMU is required upon successful completion of the training course.  Contact Deborah Dutton by phone at either X-6557 or at (330) 325-6557 or by e-mail at cmu@neoucom.edu to arrange a tour.
  3. Facility users must be listed on an active animal use protocol.  This is accomplished by completing a Participant Qualifications form as part of a new protocol submission or by completing an Addition of Personnel form if a protocol has already been approved. The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) must review and approve the training of all new research personnel being added to protocols. Contact the IACUC Coordinator, Lora Nicholson, by phone at either X-6556 or at (330) 325-6556 to request guidance in completing and/or submitting the appropriate form.
  4. All health evaluation and safety training requirements must be completed as determined by the NEOUCOM/P Occupational Health and Safety Office. Contact the Administrator  of Occupational Health and Safety, Mechelle Gehle-Wann, by phone at either X-6494 or at (330) 325-6494 to review your safety training requirements.

The CMU will notify the Occupational Health and Safety Office when an individual has met the first three requirements.  After completion of the fourth requirement, the Occupational Health and Safety Office will contact Security to have the requesting individual's key card upgraded to permit access to the Comparative Medicine Unit.

For questions regarding facility access or problems with key card access, please contact the Comparative Medicine Unit office by e-mail at cmu@neoucom.edu, by phone at X-6555, or visit us on campus in Room V-110.
