Consistent with the requirements of the Public Health Service, investigators acquiring animal products (e.g., custom antibodies) or animals that have undergone experimental or surgical procedures elsewhere must obtain them from suppliers that have an Animal Welfare Assurance on file with the Public Health Service.  Investigators must provide the Animal Welfare Assurance number of the supplier as part of their protocol submission.

This policy does not apply to the routine acquisition of unadulterated research animals or "off-the-shelf" biologicals or antibody reagents.
