for Pharmacy Students

 The following chart shows some of the key events, experiences, and activities that will guide you throughout the course of your pharmacy education. The knowledge and experience gained from fulfilling these goals will help you in understanding yourself, career exploration, career decision-making, and job application. The timetable is divided into each step of the curriculum. You may want to familiarize yourself with the entire table at least once, and then refer back to the relevant information at the beginning of each step. Hopefully you will find that by completing the suggestions in this timetable at the appropriate times, you will be better prepared to make the best career choice for you.

 
  P1 – Self Assessment

  • Attend Pharmacy Career Stories lectures
  • Attend Leadership Education and Professionalism Workshop
  • Join Specialty Interest Groups and attend meetings
  • Complete MBTI Personality Testing
  • Attend Summer Opportunities Exploration Week Activities
  • Record your Pharmacist Patient Care Experiences in your portfolio
  • Attend Career Fair
  • Complete summer internship applications
  • Seek out summer shadowing opportunities

 
  P2 Self Assessment/Career Exploration

  • Begin “pre-search” of Pharmacy Career Options (see CiP channel)
  • Attend Pharmacy Career Stories lectures
  • Record Service Opportunities in your portfolio
  • Contact Specialty Advisors
  • Attend LEAP workshop
  • Record reflection of summer experience in portfolio
  • Attend local chapter meetings of pharmacy associations. 


  • Update your resume
  • Attend Specialty Interest Group Meetings
  • Research Pharmacy Career Options
  • Select Professional Elective options
  • Continue career research- complete more in depth research on those career options in which you are interested
  • Attend Career Fair
  • Complete summer internship applications

  P3 -  Decision Making

  • Update your resume
  • Attend Career Fair
  • Review your career exploration and personal career assessments and set guidelines for decision-making
  • Collect any additional information you would like about career options in which you are interested
  • Attend OSHP or ASHP Residency Showcase
  • Attend a national pharmacy association meeting
  • Explore post-graduate options for residency and fellowship

 
 P4  – Implementation

 

  • Apply for NAPLEX & MPJE Board Exam
  • Attend OSHP (Nov) or ASHP (Dec) Residency Showcase
  • Finalize resume (May)

  • Identify faculty to write letters of recommendation
