CAMPUS-BASED AID GRANTS AND LOANS
(Require both student and parental information on the FAFSA) GrantsNEOUCOM Grant - private individual donations to the NEOUCOM Foundation to provide grants to NEOUCOM students. Eligibility is based on financial need and certain qualifications are determined by donors. Awards are based on percentage of need. FAFSA form and Campus-based Aid Application required. Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) - Need-based awards for students from disadvantaged backgrounds as determined by the Department of Health and Human Services. Amounts vary by year. FAFSA form and Campus-based Aid Application required. LoansNEOUCOM Loan - private individual donations to the NEOUCOM Foundation to provide need-based loans for junior and senior medical students. Interest-free while in school and during 3 month grace period. Repayment begins 3 months after graduation or withdrawal. 5% interest at time of repayment. FAFSA form and Campus-based Aid Application required. Federal Perkins Loan - Need-based Federal loan program. Interest is subsidized during medical school and for a 9 month grace period after graduation. 5% interest rate when repayment begins. Award amounts are determined by the financial aid office and are based on availability of funds. FAFSA and Campus-based Aid Application required. Loans for Disadvantaged Students (LDS) - Need-based Federal loan program for students from disadvantaged backgrounds as determined by the Department of Health and Human Services. Interest is subsidized during medical school and for a 12-month grace period after graduation. Interest rate is 5% upon repayment. Award amounts are determined by the financial aid office and are based on availability of funds. FAFSA and Campus-based Aid Application required. Primary Care Loan (PCL) - Need-based Federal loan program. Interest is subsidized during medical school and during a 12-month grace period after graduation. Additional postponements based on eligibility. 5% interest rate at repayment. Borrowers must sign agreement to practice in a general primary care field as defined by the Department of Health and Human Services. Award amounts are based on availability of funds. OTHER FEDERAL SOURCES OF AID Federal Stafford Loan - Need-based Federal loan program. Interest is subsidized during medical school and for a 6 month grace period after graduation. Additional postponements based on eligibility. Interest rate is fixed 6.8%. FAFSA required. Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan - Non-need based Federal loan program. Interest begins to accrue upon disbursement of funds. Interest rate is fixed at 6.8%. Borrowers may postpone payment of principal and interest during in-school period and for a 6-month grace period after graduation. Additional postponements based on eligibility. FAFSA required. GradPLUS - Non-need based Federal loan program. Interest begins to accrue upon disbursement of funds. Interest rate is fixed at 8.5%. Borrowers may postpone payment while enrolled at elast half-time. Additional postponements based on eligibility. Requires student to be credit-ready.
